Just before I reached the door, I sent him a message.
[Baby, are you staying at your parents' place tonight, or are you coming home?]
His reply came almost instantly.
[Baby, I’m not coming back tonight. My parents want me to stay and spend more time with them. Sorry to make you sleep alone tonight.]
I scoffed upon reading his reply.
If it were before, I might’ve believed him.
Tears welled up, but I wiped them away with my fingertips. Then, I stepped forward.
I knew the door code. I punched it in, walked inside, and headed straight for the bedroom.
But then I heard it—a woman’s voice.
"Uncle Wilbur, slow down... that’s too fast!"
His voice followed, low and teasing.
"You don’t want it anymore, baby?"
I froze.
The moans and murmurs from the other side of the door crashed over me like a tidal wave.
My grip tightened around my phone.
For a moment, I felt like I wasn’t even standing there, like I was outside my own body, trapped between a dream and reality.
My hands trembled and my legs felt weak.
I clutched the doorknob, trying to steady myself, but my heart kept shaking violently in my chest.
