Relief washed over his face as he hugged me tightly. "I’ll go and come back soon."
I watched Evan leave with a smile, but the curve of my lips never reached my eyes.
By seven in the evening, he still had not returned. My phone vibrated at this time. "Isla, I have an urgent mission and can’t get back in time."
Urgent mission, huh?
An image of Violet’s alluring figure flashed in my mind. No doubt. They must be busy turning things around.
"It’s okay. Your mission is more important."
"I’ll make it up to you when I come back. We didn’t get to enjoy our anniversary last time. Let’s ask for leave and travel together."
Make it up for me? Once he learned that I was "dead", I wondered what he would think about how to make up for me.
I began packing my luggage.
The house was full of memories, including photos of us smiling side by side, the sofa where we spent time together watching movies and even the vase he had once bought for me...
I used to believe these things would be with me for the rest of my life, but now, they were nothing but bitter reminders.
