Just as Megan reached the door, she stopped dead at his words. Without responding, she opened the door and stepped out.
In everyone’s eyes, she was a sinner, but was she truly guilty?
As Megan contemplated this, she shook her head, trying to hold back her tears.
Perhaps due to her distraction, she bumped into someone on her way back.
“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t looking. Are you okay?” Megan immediately apologized.
But when she recognized the person, she froze.
“Rose? Is that really you? What happened to you?” he asked.
Seeing James Lopez, Megan’s instinct was to flee.
She blurted out, “You’ve mistaken me for someone else.”
But James grabbed her arm firmly, making it impossible for her to break free.
Looking up into James’s eyes, she saw them shimmer with tears: “It’s been years, but I’d never forget your face. How could I possibly mistake you for someone else?”
Megan felt a lump in her throat, unable to speak.
“She’s right; you’ve got the wrong person. Rose is still in the hospital, unconscious, and this woman,” Lucian’s voice cut through the tense air, “is the one responsible for her condition.”
