My clenched fist tightened, then relaxed. I turned to the police to inquire about the situation.
Although the officers brought them in, they hadn't found concrete evidence of illegal activity. They didn't expect the two to not only know each other but be involved in such a relationship.
After a routine warning, they released them.
On the way home, Wyatt kept trying to explain, insisting that nothing had happened between him and Fiona. He claimed he had just gone to watch her practice, and while she showered, he waited outside the whole time.
"I believe you, darling," I said with a smile, gently touching his face, and then asked him to carry me upstairs.
Fiona followed behind us, her face turned grim as she watched. She gritted her teeth and left.
Not long after Fiona left, my mother called. She didn't even let me speak before launching into a tirade, scolding me for wrongfully accusing Fiona and causing a scene at the police station. She demanded how Fiona was supposed to hold her head up after this.
"Mom, do you even know what really happened? You're just blaming me without knowing the facts. I was called to the station by the police."
