My life was all about Cedric. I was busy with his daily life, and I even cooked for him. But he said I was useless and was nothing compared to Lisa.

I wanted to use the remaining time to consolidate my expertise.

Fortunately, although I didn't have much work to do, I had never neglected my profession. Otherwise, I wouldn't have dared to take on any big projects.

At the thought of that, I broke out in a cold sweat.

I really feared that I'd spend my life pleading for Cedric's mercy and end up miserably.

The sudden sound of the door opening interrupted my thoughts. I knew Cedric was back.

But I didn't want to talk to him, so I pretended that I didn't hear anything. I heard him go to the bedroom and then knock on the living room door. "Emily, I know you're inside."

I limped to open the door for him.

He wanted to blame me, but when he saw my leg, he suddenly felt guilty. "When ...did you come back? Why didn't you answer my calls?"

"I put my phone on silent mode," I glanced at my phone and said, coming up with a random excuse.

Cedric looked at me and suddenly questioned me, "Do you know how worried I was?"
