Trembling, I closed my eyes again to try to contact Rowan. I knew my wolf was getting weak from the lack of food and air but I had to keep trying. Although I’ve tried countless times to mind-link him, it has been fruitless so far. It was either he would leave the link open and wouldn’t say a word or he would not respond.

But for the sake of our unborn pups, I had to keep fighting.

“Rowan,” I whispered in my mind again, pouring every ounce of my remaining strength into the link. “Please, my mate. I need you. The rogues have taken me. I heard them mention going south and I don’t know if that was where we ended up. Please… for me… for the sake of our unborn babies who are in danger. Please find us.”

I waited and for a moment, there was nothing but the usual silence that had greeted me from previous attempts. I had nearly ended the link when I felt a flicker of response. I felt Rowan's presence as he connected to the link and my heart soared with hope.

“Rowan darling –”

I started to say when he interrupted me.

“Enough of your drama, Freya,” his voice echoed, cold and dismissive. “I’m in the middle of an important meeting. Stop trying to get my attention with these games.”
