Before the police could speak,Jack played an audio recording.
It was Wendy’s voice from last night on bed, the sounds she made when she couldn’t take it anymore.
Wendy’s face turned pale.She grabbed his phone and deleted it.“Jack,how shameless can you be?!”
Jack smiled.“Delete it if you want.I have backups.”
“Come on,Wen,you enjoyed it last night.Now you pretend nothing happened.That really hurts me.”
“I know you’re angry because I didn’t take care of your feelings.I promise to do better next time.”
Jack looked relaxed.He even spoke to the police politely,“Sorry for wasting public resources.My wife gets emotional.I need to comfort her.”
The police nodded at Jack's words.
After all,they were frequent visitors.Every few months they came and every time it ended with“not enough evidence—go home and talk it out.”
Everyone thought that Jack loved Wendy.
Yet,only Wendy knew the truth.The person in Jack’s heart was never her.
They were sent out of the police station.Cold wind went into Wendy’s clothes.She felt frozen inside.
She failed again. No matter what she did,Jack always stayed calm.
