Tip: Repair any leaks and dry up any water buildup. Keep dishes clean and dry to reduce humidity.

3. Ripe or Fermented Fruits

Fruit flies are attracted to rotting food. This includes ripe or fermented fruits, as well as vegetables that are starting to rot. If you leave fruit on the table for a long time or don’t clean the surroundings well, you may be creating an ideal environment for flies to breed.

Tip: Regularly check the fruits and vegetables in your kitchen and get rid of those that are outdated. Consider refrigerating the products to prolong their freshness.

4. Open Doors and Windows

Flies know how to take advantage of openings in your home. If you leave doors and windows open, especially during the warm months, flies may come in looking for a place to feed. This problem is even more apparent if you don’t have mosquito nets installed.

Tip: Install screens on doors and windows and make sure to close the entrances tightly when you are not at home.

5. Pets and their Waste

Pets can also be a source of flies. Pet food that is left exposed, droppings in the garden, or the accumulation of hair and sheets can attract these insects. Flies are especially attracted to organic odors.
