“He’s… not here.”

Daniel stepped forward calmly.

“I’m Daniel,” he said politely, resting a reassuring hand on the back of Emily’s chair.

The woman quickly excused herself.

Emily looked up at him.

“You didn’t have to do that.”

“Yes,” he said gently.

“I did.”

A Letter From the Past

Days later, Daniel and Emily met again for coffee.

During their conversation, Emily suddenly grew quiet.

“There’s something I need to tell you,” she said.

Her voice trembled.

“I was working the night your wife was brought into the hospital.”

Daniel felt the world tilt beneath him.

Emily explained softly that she had been one of the nurses during Clara’s final hours.

She had remembered Daniel immediately.

Later that evening, Daniel discovered an envelope waiting on his car windshield.

Inside was a letter written by Clara before she passed away.

In it, she had asked him for one thing:

Don’t stop living.

And if life ever gives you another chance to love… take it.

The Family He Never Planned For

Emily found him outside moments later.

Both of them stood there in silence before finally embracing — two people who had carried grief alone for far too long.

Life didn’t magically become perfect after that.

But it became real again.
