Kate Middleton surprised royal fans this week after unveiling a fresh new look. The Princess of Wales, long associated with her flowing brunette hair, opted for a long plait during her final engagement in Bradford on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, during a visit to Family Action’s Children’s Trauma Therapy Service, the 44-year-old was seen wearing her hair in lightly curled waves that fell over her shoulders as she spoke with staff about the creative therapies used to help children cope with complex trauma.

During the visit, she told workers, “It’s probably been a lifeline for them in so many ways,” describing their work as “umbilical cord support”.

From polished waves to practical plait

Middleton, who serves as a patron of the Rugby Football League, later headed to Wakefield Trinity Rugby League Club, where she met and chatted with young players from the team.

As the weather turned blustery and the elements became more challenging, the future Queen decided on a practical solution, styling her hair into a DIY (do it yourself) plait to keep it out of her face.
