Method for Long Zippers: The Fork Trick
This method is ideal for jackets or garments where the zipper is longer. You will only need one fork:
- Remove the zipper slider (the moving piece that joins the teeth).
- Place the slider over the fork teeth, making sure it fits snugly between the tips.
- Line up both sides of the zipper on the slider and gently push down to snap it into place.
- Once the slider is properly positioned, try closing the zipper to make sure it’s working properly.
Method for short zippers: adjust and sew the stop
When it comes to shorter zippers, such as those on pants, this trick is the perfect solution:
- Identify the bottom area of the zipper where the slider doesn’t fit snugly.
- Using scissors, cut a small length of the bottom end of the zipper.
- Snap the slider (also known as a cursor) into this freshly cut section and slide it up.
- To prevent the slider from slipping off, sew the area where you made the cut, creating a new firm stop.
Additional Tips
- Use sturdy yarn to ensure that the new stop is durable.
- If the slider is damaged, you can easily replace it with a new one at any haberdashery.
