Despite the optimism, royal biographer Tom Bower has cast serious doubt on the idea of a festive reconciliation. Speaking to OK! Magazine, Bower suggested that Harry’s hopes of rebuilding bridges with his family are unlikely to bear fruit. He said that Harry appeared eager to re ingratiate himself with his father, especially after publicly acknowledging that he does not know how much time Charles has left. Even so, Bower believes that this emotional reality does not place Harry high on the king’s list of priorities.
Bower also pointed out that the couple’s sense of isolation is deepened by Meghan’s own strained family relationships. Meghan has been estranged from her father, Thomas Markle, since the period leading up to her wedding in 2018, with her mother, Doria Ragland, the only member of her family in attendance on the day. Recently, Thomas Markle spoke of his wish to repair their relationship following life saving surgery that resulted in the amputation of his lower leg due to a blood clot. Reports suggested Meghan reached out by letter, but Bower maintains that unresolved tensions on both sides of the family leave Harry and Meghan emotionally alone this Christmas.
